Home Sweet Home. Probably.

It’s looking like this is the one – the place to call our own! House_2

Personally, I’m not wild about the big garage door up front, but life is about compromise isn’t it?   I think this house is a fine compromise.  (I’m a renovated farmhouse kind of gal at heart, complete with horse barn…)

I appreciated the comments people made on this earlier post about walking into a house and feeling the "ahh, this is the one" factor.  I felt it here.  Steve needed a little convincing, but not much.  Unfortunately the house faces south, but most of the living space is on the north side.  We’re going to install a couple of extra windows in back to brighten it up just a bit.  That and a lighter color paint than what’s in there now and it will be perfect! (Except for the fact that it’s not a farmhouse with a horse barn out back.)

Visual description: gray vinyl sided 2-story house, with some brick detailing. White, rather prominent 2-car garage door on right.  Don’t know what kind of build an architect would call it.  Anyone know?  It’s all of 5-years old…

  1. I know what you mean about the garage. Columbia is full of that kind of design. We found a house in an older neighborhood with a traditional design and mature trees, and are busy making it into our dream house.
    Enjoy!!

  2. Ken – Hello! You know it hadn’t occurred to me that we’re closer to the Pacific Ocean than ever before. Hmmm. And now that we have an empty nest, it’s going to be easier to get there.

  3. Well Connie you will be closer to the PACIFIC ocean, which is…ahem… also quite important and just fine with me.
By the way, is the house in Iowa City or Cedar Rapids?
Congratulations… you made it through these last few unsettling months.
Now December will be a fun moving-in sort of month!

  4. Mornin’ blue girl,
Yes! This house has plenty of room to sing and dance, and since we’ve been apart since July, come December he’ll have lots of catching up to do. (closing is scheduled for Dec 5)

  5. Very, very pretty, Connie! And very exciting. Not the unpacking part, or the far from the ocean and no horse barn part, but the, Oh, we finally found it! part. Even if it was you who said that with Steve finally agreeing after a few elbow cracks to the ribs.
What convinced him? Does it have a good kitchen for him to sing and dance in first thing in the morning? Was that it?

  6. I’ve had the same thought Jan. Thanks. Oh, and the only other thing wrong with this house is that it’s even further from the ocean than we are now. All the more reason to enjoy your blog. Your photos are gorgeous…

  7. Looks just great, looks like home – looks like a place you can be really happy in!
Maybe a different colour paint for the garage door would make it less prominent?
