Chuck Todd Attacks Stephen Colbert: No One Notices

“What is his real agenda here? Is it to educate the public about the dangers of money and politics, and what’s going on? Or is it simply to marginalize the Republican Party? I think if I were a Republican candidate I would be concerned about that.”

Poor Chuck. He appears to have forgotten, trapped as he is in the lobster tank of the DC bubble, that the GOP has done an exemplary job of marginalizing itself for quite some time. By alienating Latina/Latino voters, African-American voters, GLBT voters, union members, teachers, police and fire fighters, young people, the military, people with disabilities, the elderly, the GOP now appeals only to Christian conservatives and the one per cent. You can look it up. By running so far to the right the GOP candidates have already sowed their fields with salt. Colbert ain’t got nothin’ on that, baby!

  1. I love Colbert. In his bid to be the president of the United States of South Carolina, he states that if corporations are people, then he’s a people person. “I’m the Martin Luther King of corporate civil rights. I’m the Lockheed Martin Luther Burger King, you might say.” He and Jon Stewart have both admirably risen to the very serious needs of this country to expose phenomenal acts of crippling manipulation of an ill-educated populace. Must he play with the likes of the odious Herman Cain? To dance with a devil does not seem safe.
I haven’t got cable TV, so the first sniff I got of Colbert was his incredible roast of “dub” at the 2006 White House Correspondents Dinner. It was watershed comedy at its finest: Guess what? Our president is completely preposterous. It was a breath of wonderfully courageous fresh air in a country that had become mired for far too long in a stifling, dank abyss.
God (or whoever) bless Colbert and Stewart. Where might we be without them?
