When Joni Ernst told Iowans “we’re all going to die” she struck a nerve. If nerve striking is all that’s required for effective governance she aced her assignment but we all know she was pandering to the MAGA crowd. Speaking as someone who’s recently had a heart attack and bypass surgery let me quote my surgeon: “you now have many great years ahead.” Ernst believes millions upon millions of Americans should be denied life saving medical care. Her slogan is “it sucks to be you if you’re poor.” Her other slogan is a variant of Hitler’s infamous observation that the disabled are “useless eaters.” What I find remarkable isn’t Ernst’s position—its just MAGA being MAGA—its that in a state like Iowa where Charles Grassley once opined that Obamacare would “unplug grandma” Ernst is happy to yank the cord.
When will this nightmare end? When will the rail splitter wake up? When will Americans be sufficiently revolted by this unbridled fascism?
