Not Because of His Head

I was reading student essays when I came across the following sentence:

“The Elephant Man was big in his day, but not because of his head.”

This is folk art wisdom.

Nothing scares human beings more than the human head.

**

I loved it when students stole the taxidermed head of Jeremy Bentham.

**

Bentham was big, but not not because of his head.
