Aunt History’s Radio

For psychotherapy
Aunt History turns on her radio
And listens to Smolensk
It’s the thin desperate voices
She loves
The ones speaking
Of abandonment
Though she doesn’t
Call it that—human beings
Just getting by
Talking in the dark
Words bouncing
Against the curve
Of earth
It’s not therapy exactly
Babble
Like the rain
Heard in a tent
They’re speaking of wheat
Right now
Talking to no avail
No avail at all…
